This is a very remote orphanage with few outside visitors, this orphanage houses approximately 200 special needs children. Adequate medical care is a challenge in this remote corner of Russia, and Desana has provided emergency funding for what most would describe as basic medical needs (such as providing $1,000 for diapers for bed-ridden children). Over the years Desana has also contributed to facility improvements by replacing windows, remodeling several bathrooms, installing playground equipment, and purchasing equipment for a sensory lab playroom to further mental development for these children.
These are the forgotten children of Russia. No family or friends come to visit. If they die while here, they are buried in an unmarked grave with only a number – They are forgotten in life and forgotten in death. Our faithful team of volunteers visit these children a few times each year (it is about 8 hours drive from Nizhny).
