In 2016 Susie Houk decided she would like to oversee the Calvary Chapel at Highway Secondary School in Kiganda, Mubende District, Uganda. We had constructed this chapel in 2014 with the hopes that a local Nashville church would supply the pastor. After several years of being used by the students for study hall, local gatherings, some praise and worship and occasional church services, Susie wanted to formalize this important project for Desana.
We started a search for a pastor and after interviewing several candidates, we settled on Murungi Justine Ndanga. Justine is a graduate of Highway Secondary School and was already teaching at the school. So, the fit was good right from the start.
This community is a very poor farming village with a population of about 2000. Since 2017, the number of students and community people attending has been steadily increasing. With the addition of a sound system and keyboard, we have noticed even greater attendance.
